Anatomic footwear, decoded

An anatomic sandal is a wellness product, not a fashion one.

BIOS anatomic sandals are built around a contoured footbed that redistributes weight away from the forefoot, supports the medial arch and cradles the heel. They are the flagship product of the "wellness footwear" retail category worldwide and the entry point to the orthopaedic and diabetic-friendly sub-segments. Our Elche and Alicante partners have been producing BIOS-style sandals since the 1990s.

What makes a *BIOS* sandal

Footbed: cork-and-latex composite, thermo-formed to a neutral arch profile (4 mm drop), covered in soft suede or microfibre. Outsole: lightweight EVA or TR rubber.

Uppers: leather, nubuck, microfibre or recycled synthetics. Adjustability is central: double or triple buckle straps as standard, velcro on retail variants.

The two anatomic categories our factories produce.

Within the catalogue, the range covers the spectrum from summer sandals to closed footwear.

BIOS & anatomic FAQ

Questions about BIOS and anatomic sandals.

What does it mean for a sandal to be "BIO"?
The term "BIO" refers to two pillars: anatomy and sustainability. Our sandals feature an ergonomic footbed that mimics the natural shape of the foot, and are made from natural, renewable or recycled materials (such as natural cork and latex).
What are the benefits of wearing anatomic sandals?
• Weight distribution: they spread pressure across the whole foot, reducing heel and back pain. • Arch support: they keep the foot in its correct position, improving posture. • Thermal insulation: natural cork insulates from the heat of the ground and absorbs moisture.
What materials are they made of?
We use sustainably sourced natural cork for the midsole, latex for flexibility, and high-quality leather or eco-friendly microfibre finishes (in our vegan line). Outsoles are usually lightweight EVA for shock absorption.
Do you offer vegan options?
Yes. We have a Cruelty-Free collection in which we replace traditional leather with breathable synthetic fabrics, recycled microfibres and adhesives free of animal-derived components. Look for the "Vegan" tag on the product sheet.
